Having been fascinated by the stars and Astronomy through childhood, the news of Cassini's final descent led to a knot in me. I have not kept up with the stars, and if Cassini were to think of me (or of our Earth) before it spiraled down, maybe this is what it would say.

Cassini.

In the abyss of darkness,
awash with suns and yet cold,
I gyrate about my intent.

The view is pretty, full of blackness,
with the moons to keep me company,
Plumes, sometimes they vent.

The tidings take time,
An hour and nineteen,
Before my words to you may present,
The minutiae of my being.

There is no return for me,
or any hope of your countenance.
When our talks are finally done,
I will take my descent.

And you see me now?

Having been fascinated by the stars and astronomy throughout my childhood, the news of Cassini's final descent led to a knot in me. I have not kept in touch with the stars and space. If Cassini were to think of me (or of our Earth) before it spiraled down, maybe this is what it would have said when my thoughts would have reached it.

P.S.: Was written impromptu when Cassini took its descent.
