  2. Herschel Space Telescope (which retired in 2013) used very sensitive bolometers (devices used to detect electromagnetic radioation) to look out of other worlds and stars. Electronic devices generate inherent noise even at room temperatures and must be cooled to near Absolute minimum (0K) where the entropy is minimum for devices. The telescopes liquid Helium boiled off (but only after competing its full term).
