Okay, so here is what I learnt today.
1. It is possible to have more than one conditional in a C Preprocessor. We are so used to using #ifdef (which can not handle an OR or AND condition, but only a unary condition) that we forget that we have #if defined(CONDITION 1) || defined(CONDITION 2) preprocessor functionality too.
